Consumer Shopping Trends Inform Categories for 2008 CEW Beauty Awards
The race for "must have" products of the year kicks off with CEW Product Demo
NEW YORK, February 26, 2008 – Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) has raised the stakes on the industry's most prestigious competition-the CEW Beauty Awards. The 2008 race for the stand-out products of the year will feature revised categories and stricter entry requirements created in partnership with The NPD Group*, a leading consumer and retail information provider. The result is a more exclusive, more competitive contest for this year's best in beauty.
“The NPD Group has helped align our categories with what's happening in the marketplace,” reported Cosmetic Executive Women President Carlotta Jacobson. “More than ever before, the Beauty Awards will determine the best products in the hottest segments. We're right in step with what shoppers are looking for.”
The Beauty Awards season has its official start on Wednesday, February 20th at the legendary CEW Product Demonstration, the biggest cosmetic exhibition of all time. Nearly 600 new products from over 285 brands will be on display at the Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building for attendees to touch, test, and take home. A “velvet rope” event, access to the Demonstration is limited to CEW's voting membership, professionals working in the field who serve as the decision-makers for this year's best. “In beauty, innovation is a key growth driver and this event is the industry at its best. It's not about clairvoyance, it's about passion, creativity, insight and technology,” explained Jill Scalamandre, CEW's Board Chairwoman.
The CEW Beauty Awards encompass a two-step voting process: CEW members will first determine the finalists in each of 26 categories. The CEW Board of Governors will later vote to determine the winners. Both ballots - for finalists and winners - will be cast electronically and tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP.
2008 CEW Beauty Awards finalists will be announced in early March. The glamorous Beauty Awards Luncheon will follow on Friday, May 2nd at the Waldorf-Astoria, where TV personalities and celebrity presenters will announce the winning products.
Also presented at this year's ceremony will be the Indie Beauty Award, which celebrates the creativity and flair of an independent beauty company. Past winners include skyn Iceland, MD Skincare® by Dr. Dennis Gross, and Freeze 24/7.
All Beauty Award product finalists and winners will be posted on CEW's Web site, www.cew.org , with retail links for quick purchase and the coveted CEW Beauty Awards Shopping List.
The 2008 CEW Beauty Awards are sponsored by Allure, Givaudan, CVS/pharmacy, Crest Whitestrips Daily Whitening + Tartar Protection, ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, WWD Beauty Biz, The Royal Promotion Group, Restylane, KraftWorks, Arcade Marketing, MaCher, HBA Global Expo, Beilis Development, VEET, Vidicom, NeoStrata, Rpr Marketing Communications, Suite K, Digital Plus, Raw Media Network. Categories defined by NPD Group. Ballots tabulated by Ernst & Young.
