  • 2022 State of Beauty & Inflation’s Impact: At the end of the second quarter, overall U.S. beauty sales have shown growth, reaching approximately $55.5 billion. However, the beauty industry is also experiencing a slowdown in unit sales as many consumers become more budget conscious. Prices in various categories, particularly within beauty, have been rising, with the total beauty price per unit up 11 percent in 2022 year to date. These price increases are shifting consumer behavior, especially among mature generational groups.

 

  • Evolution of Skin Care, Cosmetics: The beauty industry continues to see a growing interest in clean beauty, especially in products that feature more sustainable and biodegradable packaging. Just within the fragrance category, consumer search for refillable packaging has increased over 155 percent from May to August 2022.

 

  • Holiday 2022: Much like florals were ‘it’ for spring, glittery makeup looks are well on-trend for the upcoming holiday season, due in part to Euphoria-inspired beauty trends. From May to July 2022, search terms such as “illuminating” have spiked more than 1,653 percent on Sephora.com, and consumer searches for terms “sparkles/sparkling” have increased more than 184 percent on Ulta.com.
