The organizers of the world’s largest beauty trade show, BolognaFiere Cosmoprof SpA, announced this week that the 2020 edition of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna is being postponed from spring to summer. Originally scheduled for March 12 to March 16, the show will now be held from June 11 to June 15. The show hosts more than 3,000 exhibitors and attracts on average 250,000-plus visitors.

“The latest news concerning Novel Corona Virus in Italy have forced us to review our positions,” said Gianpiero Calzolari, President of BolognaFiere. “In agreement with the Regional Government of Emilia Romagna and with the Municipality of Bologna, we have assessed the situation, and postponing the event is currently the most correct solution, to support Italian institutions engaged today in protecting our health.”

Italy is the latest country to have reported several hundreds of cases of corona virus, which originated in Wuhan, China in December. According to a report on BBC.com Thursday morning, the number of coronavirus cases in Italy has jumped to 400, a 25 percent surge in 24 hours. Globally, more than 80,000 people in about 40 countries have been infected with the virus, the vast majority of whom are based in China. Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, has killed more than 2,700 people so far, according to BBC.com.

The 2020 Bologna program will take place just two weeks prior to Cosmoprof’s North America show, which is scheduled for June 28 to June 30 in Las Vegas.
