The beauty industry is gearing up for this summer’s hottest trade show ticket, Cosmoprof North America 2017 [CPNA]. Scheduled to take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas from July 9 through July 11, CPNA is known for the breadth of brands and categories it showcases under one roof. From small, up-and-coming brands to large multi-nationals, every brand has a voice at the well-attended show, which last year drew more than 33,750 attendees and over 1,000 exhibitors.

To make the massive show easier to navigate, CPNA Marketing Director, Daniela Ciocan, has crafted special areas that group specific trends into one area. Three new trend-directional areas have been planned. The first is Discover Green Leaf, an area dedicated to green, eco-friendly beauty products for the professional, spa and hospitality sector. There’s also Discover Pack, an area dedicated to first-time exhibitors exemplifying unique packaging and contract manufacturing solutions. Finally there’s Discover Pro Beauty, a section focused specifically on professional distribution.

These three new areas will supplement existing special areas that have proven successful over the past several years, including Discover Beauty, which features niche international beauty brands; Discover Spotlight, a showcase for companies big on creativity yet smaller in size but prime for high-end retail and professional distribution; Tones of Beauty, brands dedicated to the multicultural consumer; Discover Green, brands dedicated to green, eco-friendly, clean, organic, and/or natural products; and Discover Scent, an area dedicated exclusively to fragrance.

Sunday morning, just hours before the doors open to CPNA, is The Professional Beauty Association’s Business Forum. Here is where an overview of the key trends and issues affecting the beauty industry will be discussed by Steve Sleeper, PBA Executive Director, and Reuben Carranza, Group President: R+Co & V76, Luxury Brand Partners. The two will also provide an update on the work being done as part of the association’s 2020 Strategic Roadmap. Following the update, keynote speaker Earvin “Magic” Johnson will share his secrets to success in an address titled, “Understand Your Customer and Over Deliver.” Considered one of the most powerful African-American businessmen in the world, Magic has successfully parlayed his skills and tenacity on the basketball court into the business world, propelling his company to become one of the most visible brands in urban America.

Another must-attend event is Discover Beauty After Dark, which will take place Monday evening, after the trade show floor closes. It’s here where retailers and press will have the opportunity to meet with brands from Discover Beauty, and others, in an informal and intimate atmosphere.

More than a dozen panels and educational conferences are also planned during the three-day show. CEW will return with a captivating panel, this year targeting indie beauty brand owners who are considering partnering with outside investors to take their business to the next level. The event, titled Scaling Your Business with Style, will feature Jessica Chung, Director of Merchandising at Dermstore; Kristen Conneen, Beauty Buyer at QVC and Lilli Gordon, Founder, First Aid Beauty.
