Los Angeles-based Josie Maran Cosmetics, one of the pioneers in the clean beauty space, is celebrating her latest launch — a weightless, clean serum packaged in a pink bottle called Argan Beta-Retinoid Pink Algae Serum. The former model knows a thing or two about the beauty industry, having been the face of Maybelline for several years before creating her own cosmetics empire 12 years ago. According to CEW’s Indie65 Report, Josie Maran generated between $150 million and $200 million in retail sales for 2018.

The formula’s technology combines 1.5% beta-retinoid, a bioavailable pro-retinol derived from pink algae with quercetin, which is an antioxidant that holds retinol activity within skin for longer, with faster visible results. Bioavailable beta-retinoid absorbs instantly and remains active in the skin as the quercetin intensifies, energizes, and prolongs the retinol properties, which gives visible results more quickly. This is opposed to most over-the-counter retinoids, which take a few weeks to show improvement on the skin. Josie likened the product to a club that stays open until 4 a.m. versus 2 a.m., as compared with other retinol products. The serum aims to improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and UV damage without causing redness or irritation. The serum hits shelves January 2020.

Clinical results show that 91% of users saw an improvement in smoothness after one week of serum use and 80% saw an improvement in texture after one week of use. All participants (100%) showed improvement in acne and skin dryness.

Josie Maran Beta-Retinoid Pink Algae Serum retails for $68 for a .85 oz bottle.
