Talk about being a tech-first company. Fit Culture App is a new global digital tool to help new hires acclimatize to L’Oréal’s corporate culture.

L’Oréal has big ambitions for its new Fit Culture App: empowering newcomers worldwide to master and familiarize themselves with the company’s unique corporate culture.

Launched on June 1, the Fit Culture App is described as the world’s first app developed and custom-made by a company to help its 10,000 new hires per year better understand, navigate and live the company culture, which in L’Oréal’s case dates back 100 years.

Designed to be used as part of L’Oréal’s six-month strategic onboarding program, the app acts like an in-the-know cultural coach, offering bite-sized capsules of content on topics such as entrepreneurship, agility, networking and cooperation.

Content is delivered via text, photos, videos and employee testimonials, with interactive elements including quizzes, games and real-life missions that put user learning into practice.

L’Oréal recommends that newcomers play with the app over the course of one month in five to 10-minute daily sessions. The company has gamified the app: users progressively discover ‘Insider Secrets’ (key events, anecdotes, company myths and legends) so that they can earn points and eventually become true #CultureGurus.

“Our objective with the Fit Culture App is to take our onboarding practices to the next level and to give each and every employee, from the moment they arrive, the keys to succeed in full alignment with company values such as multiculturalism, diversity and inclusion,” said Laurent Reich, Director of International Learning Practice, in a release.

The Fit Culture App has been specifically created for younger hires, and is multi-lingual. It is available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Mandarin, Turkish, Russian, Indonesian and Italian.

The app was developed by the L’Oréal Culture team, in a global collaboration with 50 new hires from 30 countries. It is used in tandem with L’Oréal’s broader onboarding efforts spanning culture-decoding seminars, e-learnings, MOOCs (massive open online courses), learning games, mentoring and buddying programs.

Fit Culture App is available to L’Oréal employees free for download in the Apple Store and the Play Store.
