Each year, thousands of professionals within the beauty industry participate in 24 Seven/CEW’s Job Market & Talent Trend Study, a deep dive that provides insights into what beauty professionals want from their career, the workplace and their employers. Most importantly, it looks to answer what companies are doing to attract and retain employees.

Below, see some of the insights revealed from 2017’s study. Be sure to scroll down to access the survey for next year’s study.

Raises, Benefits Beyond Medical & Dental
Last year, fulltime, non-executives reported a median salary increase of 6%. Though there was a slight dip in raises, 84% of employees had a salary increase in the past 12 months. Regarding benefits, outside of traditional medical and dental coverage, employees said that they want tuition reimbursement and/or paid continuing education, pension plan options and a 401K with company match. On the soft benefit side, almost half of survey participants desired the ability to work remotely.

What will we learn from this that will allow employers to increase employee happiness?

Job Switch Triggers
Seven in 10 beauty professionals were planning a job switch in the past year. Salary was the favorite job switch trigger, as it was mentioned 1.7 times more often than the second reason: better advancement opportunities. Following these two top-ranking reasons were: better growth potential, better company culture and improved quality of life. In addition to these reasons the top reasons to make a job change, the factors also influenced employees’ evaluation of their workplace as ideal.

Will this year’s research find that talent is still restless, or are employees staying put?
