After seven and a half successful years, Tara Simon, SVP Prestige Merchandising, is leaving Ulta Beauty.

Tara joined Ulta Beauty in 2012 as VP of Prestige Color. Prior to Ulta she was SVP Merchandising, Inventory & Planning at Kansas City-based Beauty Brands. Prior to Beauty Brands she worked at Sephora. Tara was promoted to her current position five and a half years ago.

In an interview with CEW Beauty News, Tara said some of her biggest accomplishments included doubling the retailer’s prestige beauty total market share. “Being the first retail partner to launch IT Cosmetics with Jamie Kern Lima was very exciting,” Tara said. And of course, there was launching Kylie Cosmetics last year. “That’s been quite a ride. We have a tremendous business with them. Doing this with a digitally native brand, and with Kylie who is such a mega influencer… they just do everything different.”

The three vice presidents who report to Tara—Maria Salcedo, Lisa Hamilton and Penny Coy—will now report into David Kimbell, President & Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, Ulta Beauty.

Of her announcement to leave Ulta Beauty, Tara said that as a student of the industry, she’s looking forward to exploring her next chapter.

“I’m leaving [Ulta] in very capable hands with an incredible team…I’m at a stage in my life and career where I am able to turn the page and look eagerly towards new beginnings. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. I started working when I was 15 years old and I’ve spent my entire career in retail, which I’ve loved. But, I’m curious about the less traditional roles that are out there. I just always want to learn more. For me it’s about what’s next,” said Tara.

Tara added she will be travelling to Texas, her home state, for the holidays, and will be staying there on and off as she “contemplates her next move.”

Her last day with Ulta is November 29.
