Just one month after its acquisition of GLOSSYBOX, The Hut Group (THG), has announced that is has purchased spa and skin care company, ESPA, from affiliates of KSL Capital Partners, LLC.

“ESPA is an exciting addition to The Hut Group’s growing portfolio of beauty brands,” said Matthew Moulding, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, The Hut Group. “We intend to invest substantially in the ESPA brand, especially in manufacturing capabilities, to develop the brand into a true global leader in its area.”

Launched in 1993, ESPA products and treatments are sold in over 700 spas, several luxury retail outlets, and direct to consumers on espaskincare.com. Last year, ESPA-trained beauty therapists performed over 5 million treatments globally.

“With spas in over 50 countries, this partnership enables us to reach even more customers all over the world,” said Susan Harmsworth, Founder of ESPA.

Through its ownership of Lookfantastic.com, THG is already Europe’s largest retailer of premium beauty, and also owns several beauty brands including Mio Skincare, Grow Gorgeous and most recently, GLOSSYBOX. According to Matthew, the investment is part of the company’s strategic plan to expand its beauty offerings and international reach by “becoming the world’s largest online retailer of health & beauty products by the end of the year.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
