Cyber Monday 2024 was the busiest online shopping day of all time, with Amazon declaring a record-breaking Cyber Week for Beauty. At CEW, we look at a new report from Market Defense — the premiere partner for beauty brands navigating global marketplaces — which unveils the trends across fragrance, haircare, skincare, and makeup. The report identifies the top-performing products and innovative names, offering brands a roadmap for e-commerce success.
Also at CEW, we report on the evolution of Eva NYC, the Brooklyn-based hair care brand on a sustainability mission and Ulta Beauty’s 2023 Conscious Beauty Brand of the Year. “Eva NYC will have a new, colorful, and sustainable look for the new year come 2025,” writes CEW reporter Kate Sullivan. “The packaging will transition from up to 25% recycled aluminum to a minimum of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic, which the brand boasts will reduce “total greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 30%” and make the packaging entirely “curbside recyclable.”
At WWD, Shiseido’s retiring CEO Masahiko Uotani looks back on the last 10 years of change at the Japanese company. Uotani was the first outsider responsible for turning Shiseido into a global enterprise. “I’m a big believer that ideas are the source of innovation,” said Uotani. “When we’re working together, different locations, different backgrounds, that is the source of innovation.”
In other executive news, Antonio Statelli has been appointed President of Elemis North America, after working with the company for 15 years. Meanwhile, leading online beauty retailer THG Beauty has tapped Robert Koerner as its new President of THG US Beauty Manufacturing (Bentley). In acquisition updates, Bic has acquired UK hairbrush brand Tangle Teezer from Mayfair Equity Partners — the company’s private equity owner — for 200 million euros.
Charlotte Tilbury will unveil its ‘world first’ Skin Spa at a new Covent Garden flagship location in London on January 9. Triple the size of the previous store at 4,300sq ft, it will offer an exclusive menu of four “benefit-led, results-driven” facial treatments using the product range. It will also feature the brand’s first Pillow Talk Bar, an “immersive play table.”
