Beauty’s big news of the day centers on Henkel’s takeover offer for Olaplex, according to Bloomberg News. Shares of the U.S. hair care products maker jumped 20% in afternoon trading. The stock has fallen about 94% since Olaplex’s market debut in September 2021. In recent years, Olaplex faced declining demand due to cautious consumer spending and heightened competition in the hair care market. To address this slowdown, the brand has increased its reliance on marketing initiatives and promotional strategies. Industry sources suggest a deal could materialize within weeks.
While several purpose-driven beauty brands have announced closures, consumer research, reports Beauty Independent, continues to indicate robust demand for value-based products. A September 2024 report from the SeeMe Index, in collaboration with Circana, revealed that brands certified as “inclusive” significantly outperformed their less inclusive counterparts. Specifically, inclusive brands achieved an 18% increase in sales compared to 12% for other brands, growing at a rate 1.5 times faster. These findings underscore the importance of inclusivity and ethical positioning as key drivers of growth in the beauty industry, even amid market challenges.
In retail news, Target has beefed up its wellness department by 30%, which now includes beauty, supplements, food and beverage, apparel, and family wellness. Most products are priced under $10 for easy access. The initiative reflects sustained growth in consumer demand for accessible, trend-driven wellness solutions and underscores Target’s strategy to capture share across adjacent categories, reports Global Cosmetics News.
This year is being touted as the year for wellness — and all the trends that come with it. Between new launches and new technologies, women are increasingly using wearables to gather data to guide health decisions from nutrition and sleep to exercise and hormone tracking. Tools that translate metrics into meaningful action will also become more common, reports Women’s Health Magazine.
And in product news, Drug Store News is reporting that NEOM Wellbeing’s Essential Oil Pens are coming in hot — all the way from the U.K. to Ulta beauty stores in the U.S. Designed to relieve stress, increase energy, and to help one’s sleep cycle, the pens are formulated with natural ingredients and functional fragrance blends.
