At CEW today, we report on a scientific breakthrough with the potential to reverse hair loss. “Researchers at MIT, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School have developed a new type of microneedle patch for the scalp and skin that painlessly releases drugs into the area of hair loss to restore the health and vitality of hair follicles,” reports Elaine D’Farley. “It regulates, rather than suppresses, the immune response that triggers alopecia areata — and just in the areas where the patch is applied.”

In hair care innovation, Olapex has unveiled its first major launch since Amanda Baldwin became the brand’s CEO, last year. The new Bond Shaping Technology salon treatment, and complementary retail product, is targeted at curly, wavy and coily hair textures. “Curly hair has a huge unmet need, but we wanted to be sure we’re not just doing it for the sake of having a curl product,” said Baldwin. “We began with the science, and it’s a symbol of our approach.”
