Today at CEW, we report on new findings and vital insights from SeeMe Index on body positivity within the beauty industry. The data harnessing firm that uses cutting-edge AI to revolutionize inclusive marketing reveals that beauty scores ‘extremely low’ in body size diversity. The data shows that larger bodies are the group least prevalent of all body sizes utilized in ads, despite the knowledge that body positivity and body image are a priority to beauty consumers. In addition, Sephora’s Racial Bias in Retail Study flagged that “three in four retail shoppers (74%) feel that marketing fails to showcase a diverse range of skin tones, body types and hair textures.” It also highlighted that body weight or size is the primary reason U.S. LatinX shoppers feel judged entering stores.

In executive news, ILIA Beauty has tapped Paul Schiraldi, former CEO of Murad, as its new CEO. He replaces Lynda Berkowitz, who is stepping down after almost eight years. In other breaking news, Sofie Pavitt Face has announced that it has received seed funding from True Beauty Ventures.

Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Sephora are partnering again for Mental Health Day. The Make a Rare Impact campaign will make a comeback on October 10, donating 100 percent of global Rare Beauty sales to the Rare Impact Fund. “The mental health crisis continues to impact young people disproportionately,” said Gomez. “Partners like Sephora are instrumental, not only by believing in this mission, but by contributing crucial funds to expand mental health resources for the young people who need them.”

In China, the Japanese luxury skin care brand SK-II is debuting its first travel flagship store. “The unveiling of our first global travel retail flagship store in Hainan marks a significant milestone in SK-II,” said Sue Kyung Lee, President of P&G Skin Care.
