Today at CEW, as part of a series in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we talk to Melissa Guy of Dotdash Meredith about her career journey. “I was about two years old when I moved to the United States with my parents, who were immigrants trying to make a new start in America,” says Guy, who started her career at Cosmopolitan, before going on to oversee the launch of Cosmo for Latinas. She went on to become one of publishing’s most inspiring and successful executives and is now Dotdash Meredith’s Chief Revenue Officer for the Beauty and Style Group. “Looking to the future, there’s so much to be excited about,” Guy told CEW reporter Belisa Silva. “There’s so much on the horizon. And the beauty of our brands is that it’s all rooted in helping and inspiring people.”
Also at CEW, we turn the spotlight on The Future of Her Health, a WSL Report on women’s health, and its implications for brands. “Reducing stress and getting quality sleep are important to 60% of women, and work/life balance makes the list for half, particularly women under 40,” according to the report. “Women under 40 place a higher priority on maintaining a youthful appearance than those over 40, and they do so by buying skin care products.” Read more in our exclusive report for CEW members.
In executive news, The Estée Lauder Companies has announced that Somer Tejwani is to be promoted to SVP and Global General Manager at Too Faced, while Michelle Shigemasa will be SVP and Global General Manager of Smashbox Cosmetics and Glamglow.
In retail headlines, Rick Gomez, Target Corp’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, has shared the store’s beauty retail strategy with WWD. “Beauty at Target has been a booming business for us. We have had growth every year for the last five years, and that has made our beauty business actually double in size since 2019,” he comments. And looking ahead to the holidays, Circana has revealed the findings of its annual holiday purchase intentions consumer survey. The data shows that consumers plan to spend an average of $771 on holiday shopping this year, representing an increase of 2% on last year’s spending intentions, yet 2% below their plans in 2021.
In launch news, Merit is making its scent debut with Retrospect, a concentrated extrait de parfum which will launch on October 22, although a waitlist is now open.
