Merit Beauty has named Philippe Pinatel as CEO, taking over for founder and current CEO, Katherine Power. In just three years, Merit, which makes a tight line of clean makeup products, has become a beauty lover’s favorite: In just 2023 it generated more than $100 million in sales.
Power, Merit’s Founder and Chairperson, is also the Founder of Versed Beauty. Kerry Sullivan was named CEO of Versed in May 2023, a brand that consists of 25 skin care SKUS, all priced under $25.
Pinatel is a 25-year veteran of beauty retail and a specialist in global, high-growth omni-channel brands. Pinatel most recently served as Global President at MAC Cosmetics and previously held senior leadership positions at Sephora, Guerlain and Birchbox.
Power will continue as Founder and Chairperson of Merit, working closely with him to deliver innovation and differentiated creative vision.
More than 80% of Merit’s product lineup have been best-sellers at Sephora in their Clean category, with classics such as the Minimalist Complexion Stick, Flush Balm blush, and the recently launched Solo Shadow eyeshadow, which generated over $1 million in sales within two weeks of launch.
