Are Products With The Same Manufacturer The Same; Fragrance Boom With Cohere Beauty; Kim Kardashian Becomes Broc Shot Advocate; How Mini Products Are Taking Over; YNS Skin Care's New Approach

The beauty and wellness industry is evolving quickly, with new trends shaping everything from skincare and supplements to retail and product development. These recent moves highlight where the market is heading and what consumers are responding to.

The debate over beauty “dupes” is raising questions about how much difference exists between products made by the same contract manufacturer. Industry experts say sharing a manufacturer does not automatically mean two products use the same formula. Some brands rely on pre-existing, white-label formulas with small changes, which can result in remarkably similar products. Others invest in custom development, proprietary ingredients, specialized processing and extensive testing, creating formulas that can differ significantly. Experts also point out that a product’s retail price reflects far more than its formula, including packaging, marketing, distribution and retailer margins. While no cosmetic is completely impossible to replicate, unique formulation processes, technology, and brand identity can make a product considerably harder to reproduce. (Beauty Independent)

Cohere Beauty is adapting its fragrance manufacturing operations as brands respond to growing demand for body mists, clean formulations and more sustainable production. The company’s Cedar Grove, New Jersey, facility offers in-house fragrance and alcohol blending, allowing customers to move products to market more efficiently while maintaining flexibility in formulation and packaging. According to site leader John Nolfi, body mists are gaining traction partly because of their accessible price point, potentially taking sales from traditional eau de parfums. At the same time, clean beauty remains more challenging for mass-market brands because of higher ingredient costs and added testing requirements. Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important, particularly for international customers that evaluate suppliers’ environmental practices. (Global Cosmetic Industry)

Kim Kardashian has joined Broc Shot as a brand advocate, bringing another major celebrity name into the growing beauty and wellness supplement market. Kardashian has reportedly added the sulforaphane-focused supplement to her wellness routine and will help raise awareness of the brand and its approach to skin health. Broc Shot is made with whole broccoli seed powder, a natural source of sulforaphane, which the company links to cellular defense and the body’s NRF2 pathway. The supplement is also marketed around broader wellness benefits, including gut and skin health. Adding to its credentials, Broc Shot has received recognition from the National Psoriasis Foundation. With Kardashian’s influence behind it, the partnership highlights how ingestible supplements are becoming increasingly connected to traditional skincare and the broader “beauty from within” movement. Mini beauty products are becoming much more than convenient travel companions, emerging as an important growth strategy for retailers and brands. Stores such as Sephora, Ulta Beauty, SpaceNK and CVS are expanding their miniature selections as shoppers show greater interest in trying different fragrances, skincare and makeup without committing to full-size products. This shift reflects a broader change in consumer behavior, with discovery and experimentation becoming increasingly important in beauty shopping. Minis can lower the barrier for customers who want to test a new brand while also encouraging shoppers to purchase multiple products. At the same time, the trend raises questions about sustainability, particularly as brands produce more packaging and smaller formats. As retailers continue investing in minis, the category could reshape how consumers discover and buy beauty products. (Beauty Matter)

YNS Skin Care is taking a more science-focused approach to skincare by combining pharmaceutical formulation knowledge with experience in facial cosmetic surgery. Kristen Flaharty, PharmD, brings expertise in ingredient selection, product development and formulation, while her husband, Patrick M. Flaharty, MD, FAACS, contributes more than two decades of experience in facial aesthetics and cosmetic procedures. Together, they are positioning the brand around streamlined routines and intentional formulations rather than chasing every new skincare trend. The approach comes as consumers navigate an increasingly crowded market and seek more credible information about ingredients and product claims. Looking ahead, YNS plans to expand its educational efforts around skincare, healthy aging and realistic expectations, to help consumers make more informed choices without making their routines unnecessarily complicated.
