At CEW today, we spotlight the brands disrupting the historically underfunded textured hair care market, and assess the impact of Bill S6528A, signed last year, requiring that New York State’s cosmetology schools cover training and education on all hair types and textures. “Brands are increasingly recognizing the importance of catering to diverse hair types and skin tones,” Aqila Augusta, Founder and CEO of Edge Entity hair care, tells Belisa Silva. “But challenges persist, including ensuring genuine representation and avoiding tokenism, addressing deep-rooted biases in beauty standards, and navigating regulatory hurdles.” Along with Augusta, Silva talks to Janell Stevens, founder of Camille Rose, and Julian R. Addo, creator of Adwoa Beauty.

Also at CEW, Andrea Nagel reports on the appointment by Supergoop! of Lisa Sequino as CEO. “Sequino most recently served as CEO of JLo Beauty following nearly two decades of driving growth in the beauty and personal care industry at The Estée Lauder Cos. and Procter & Gamble,” writes Nagel. “In 2021 she was awarded a CEW Achiever Award for her leadership and success as a beauty executive.” Veteran brand builder and strategist Michael Spillane, meanwhile, joins the company’s Board of Directors.

As Paris Fashion Week gets underway, Coty Inc. is celebrating its 120th anniversaire with the launch of its hotly awaited Infiniment Coty Paris prestige fragrance collection. Meanwhile, L’Oréal Luxe has named Dua Lipa—the face of YSL’s Libre scent since 2019—YSL Beauty’s global makeup ambassador. “Her influence is a celebration of individuality, a statement of empowerment, encouraging everyone to embrace their unique beauty with confidence,” said YSL Beauty’s international general manager, Stephan Bezy.

Closer to home, actress Ashley Tisdale has added the new Being Frenshe Scent, Palo Santo Sage, to her lifestyle and wellness range, which made its debut exclusively at Target in 2022. “The mood-boosting scent, designed with intention, features our MoodScience Scent Technology — a proven technology to boost your mood,” said Tisdale.
