CEW celebrated the 2024 Visionary Awards in Los Angeles last night, while, in New York, finalists for the CEW 2024 Suppliers Awards were unveiled at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC). Among the finalists for the Awards, which recognize natural and/or synthetic ingredients or formulations demonstrating new technology and innovation, were industry leaders dsm-firmenich, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, and Givaudan.

In skin care news, today CEW highlights new data from CivicScience that shines a light on the Gen Alpha shopping surge, with Sephora and Ulta Beauty confirming the trend. “The Generation Alpha shopper accounts for 49% of skin care sales growth,” reports Genevieve Monsma, who notes the “increased discussion about the potential adverse effects on mental health and risks associated with using active skin care ingredients on pre-teen and teenage skin.”

Making beauty tech headlines, Dolce & Gabbana Beauty partnered with Saks Fifth Avenue for the launch party in New York City of its latest makeup collection, using augmented reality (AR) mirrors to allow guests to try on preloaded looks, designed by the brand’s makeup artists. “AR Mirrors instantly reflect the person who stands in front of them, but the key difference is that the reflection appears with the added augmented reality layer,” said Dmytro Kornilov, CEO and founder of FFFACE.ME, which provided the tech. Meanwhile, on the West Coast, Bulgari is hosting a fragrance pop-up at the South Coast Plaza Shopping Center in Costa Mesa, California, marking the launch of its new Allegra Chill & Sole scent.

In market news, Oddity, the tech company which owns Il Makiage and SpoiledChild, surpassed Wall Street forecasts in Q1. Net revenue was $212 million in the first three months of the year, compared to $166 million in the same period last year. And in executive news, Ben Jones has been tapped by Radiance Golding as its new CEO, overseeing the Sola Salons franchise and the Woodhouse Spas day spa brand.
