A new podcast, the Leadhership Journeys, uses the power of storytelling to inspire women in leadership. The show, which launched this month, is hosted by British psychologist and author Leona Deakin, with an episode dropping each Wednesday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all podcast platforms.

During her career, Deakin has always doubled down on leadership psychology, as she told reporter Claire Lomax at the Wharfedale Observer in an article at the English newspaper’s website this week. “I have learned so much from such women during my career as a leadership psychologist, and I wanted to share that with others,” said Deakin, who is based in Ilkley, a spa town in the City of Bradford in West Yorkshire, in Northern England. “As women and girls, we are often told that it is tougher to get to the top as a female, so what can we learn from those who have already made it? I decided to find out.”

In the Wharfedale Observer article, Lomax shares the vision behind Leadhership Journeys, which is “a podcast for female leaders about female leaders,” according to the newspaper, who also spoke to its producer, Nick Wilsmhurst, of Ginger Wizard Productions.

As Deakin explains in the feature, “this is a podcast for ambitious women who wish to accelerate their success, realize their dreams or change the world.” She has already picked a diverse mix of guests to interview for season one of the show, ranging from the CEO of Yorkshire Cancer Research to a Ukrainian refugee and fashion entrepreneur.

All of Deakin’s guests so far have a surprising amount in common, despite their very different backgrounds and personal journeys. “The themes discussed include not waiting until you’re perfect, following your passion and persisting in the face of failure,” writes Lomax.

A fully qualified psychologist, Deakin is registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council and chartered with the British Psychological Society. Her career has seen her work with leaders not only in the corporate world, but also in the military, police, and crown prosecution service. She is also a published author of six thrillers, with Penguin Random House, including The Escape Room. Her books have been sold into 14 countries, with one being optioned for film and television.
