Maya Allen is Beauty Director of InStyle, the leading voice of style where everybody’s in. Most recently, Maya served as the Beauty Editor at Marie Claire, where she covered everything from global beauty trends, her favorite Black-owned businesses and celebrity interviews with Naomi Campbell, Tracee Ellis Ross, Cardi B and many more. In addition to representing the brand at industry events, she also was named a 2019 Hearst Spotlight Awards recipient. Previously, she wrote at Byrdie Beauty, Cosmopolitan and InStyle, where she began her career in 2015 as a beauty intern.

 

Maya has made it her mission to inform, inspire, and shift the narrative of the beauty industry. She found her love for journalism as a young girl growing up in Portland, Oregon collecting magazines. She dreamed of seeing women who looked like her in articles and on covers but never found the representation she yearned for in the media. So, she decided to change that. She majored in Journalism at Howard University with a minor in African-American Studies and spent every summer starting her freshman year interning at major magazines in New York gaining reputable editorial experience from seasoned editors.
