Today at CEW, we spotlight BEAUTYSTREAMS’ Top 50 Year in Review. The annual report spans seven categories, diving into the most noteworthy innovations of 2024: Beauty News; Product Innovation; Ingredient Innovation; Social Media Trends; Packaging Innovation; Technology Advancements; and Retail Innovation.

Also at CEW, we sit down with Christina Oster Daum, founder and co-owner of 20 year old German beauty company Cosnova, to discuss self-funding, saying no to ads, and succeeding in the U.S. mass market — the company is a billion-dollar business, thanks to its popular brands Catrice and Essence. “Our mantra at Cosnova is, ‘Make everyone feel more beautiful,’” Oster Daum told CEW. “From day one, it has been about offering the best value, so we invest everything into our products, because we believe the best marketing tool is the product.”

In breaking market news, stock in Walgreens Boots Alliance rose by almost 20% following reports that the company is in talks about being acquired by private equity firm Sycamore Partners. Meanwhile, the Chinese cosmetic company Mao Geping has raised $300 million in IPO Shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange.  Meanwhile, in Japan, the Kosé Corporation has bought Pañpuri, the Thai beauty and wellness company founded in 2003 by Vorravit Siripark.

Closer to home, WWD reports that three of New York City’s celebrity dermatologists are joining forces to form a combined practice. Husband and wife duo Drs. Patricia and Eugene Wexler will partner with Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank’s at his practice in January.

“Dr. Wexler is one of the original celebrity dermatologists and one of the innovators of the advancements in our field for the last 40 years,” Frank commented. “Like most health care providers, she is by no means ready to hang up her coat and she loves seeing her patients.”

In fragrance, Zara has unveiled its latest collaboration with veteran super-stylist Guido Palau: Zara Hair Perfume. The trio of hair fragrances — Dawn, Dusk and Midnight — were formulated by Palau and perfumer Jerome Epinette.
