Here at CEW, we report on the New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) 2024 Synergy Awards breakfast, where Carlotta Jacobson, CEW President, was honored with The Lifetime Achievement Award. “It’s hard to believe that an industry that is focused on women needed an organization like ours to ensure women would have the opportunities and recognition they deserve,” said Jacobson, on accepting the award for her 40-plus years of empowering and honoring female excellence in the beauty industry. “It is what inspired me to devote my work to advancing women. Seeing women rise, find their voice, and take their place as leaders has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
Also at CEW today, we talk to Leslie Tessler, a former L’Oréal marketing executive and the founder of indie body care brand hanni, about her return to the industry after experiencing stress-induced burnout and moving to Argentina. Returning to the U.S. after 10 years, Tessler launched the range, which was snapped up by Sephora. Tessler takes a hands-on approach to business. “Hitting the ground and making those personal connections, that’s everything and we see the spikes,” Tessler tells CEW reporter Kavita Daswani. “I’d much rather be with beauty advisors talking about hanni rather than writing marketing emails at my desk.”
In breaking news, Natura & Co has reported significant growth in Q3 2024, with revenue reaching R$ 6 billion, which represents an increase of 18.5% year-over-year in constant currency. This increase was mainly led by Natura Brazil, which saw a 19.4% growth. And in investments, Divi, the scalp care range founded by influencer Dani Austin, has acquired a minority investment from Norwest Venture Partners.
Today, Armani Beauty releases A Few Days in Venice, a documentary made during the 81st Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia. “It’s not just the classic makeup preparation or ‘get ready with me’,” said Richard Pinabel, Global Brand President of Armani Beauty. “We wanted something a bit more personal, emotional and to go really behind the entire process that is leading to the event.” The 23-minute film stars actress Camila Mendes, among many others.
In beauty tech, L’Oréal Groupe reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment to open innovation” by showcasing the winners of its Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Program at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) last week. Meanwhile, the international hairdressing industry is remembering Trevor Sorbie, the British celebrity hairdresser and champion of charities who has died at age 75. Sorbie was most famously credited for creating the “wedge” cut.
