At CEW today, hot on the heels of announcing the finalists of the 2024 CEW Beauty Awards, we report on the two winners of the Clean Beauty Summer School, the annual program serving BIPOC brands created by Amy Liu, founder of Tower 28. “This year, Liu awarded two grand prize winners, one from the entrepreneur category and one from the content creator category, a new addition,” writes CEW reporter Faye Brookman, who talked to Liu and the winning entrepreneurs. “They each received prizes valued at $35,000, including legal retainers, sales and marketing support, and $10,000 in cash.”

Also at CEW, we report on Beauty Made In Italy — What’s New/What’s Next, an event celebrating Italian-made beauty that took place last week in Manhattan, hosted by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) New York. “What makes our products special is century-old traditions and cutting-edge technology — a blend of artistry and innovation,” said Erica Di Giovancarlo, Trade Commissioner of ITA New York. The immersive, multi-sensory experience featured a mix of AI animation and live models embodying fire, water, air, earth, and metal.

In its 19th year, L’Oréal Paris’ Women of Worth philanthropic program honors 10 extraordinary women making a difference. Honorees receive prizes including $25,000, mentoring, and access to the brand’s platform to amplify their messages. This year, they include Wawa Gatheru, a Kenyan American environmental activist and the founder of Black Girl Environmentalist. “I noticed that while women of color, and Black women in particular, were disproportionally impacted by climate issues, we’re not often represented in climate leadership,” Gatheru told CEW. In other L’Oréal news, the company celebrated the start of Paris Fashion Week yesterday with Le Défilé 2024, a “Walk Your Worth” runway show at the Opéra de Paris, featuring brand ambassadors including Kendall Jenner, Andie MacDowell, Cara Delevingne, Eva Longoria and Jane Fonda.

In breaking launch news, Deciem, parent company of The Ordinary, has unveiled a new body care brand: Loopha, which goes on sale this Thursday. “This is a restart of the incubator,” commented Nicola Kilner, Deciem’s cofounder and chief executive. “Deciem was always designed to be an ecosystem where we can play.” Meanwhile, in executive news, L’Occitane Group CEO Laurent Marteau has resigned from the company, and a transitional management team will take up the helm until his successor is announced.
