In a series of conversations with top women beauty leaders about the passion points within their jobs, L’Oréal USA executive Nathalie Gerschtein discusses how her passion for learning new things makes her a better leader, and keeps her career challenging and fresh.

“I am constantly seeking out new experiences both at work and in my personal life. I never want to feel stagnant, and I have a lifelong passion for learning and discovering new things.

This curiosity has led me around the world on a career that has spanned many continents. Since leaving Paris in 2011, my journey with L’Oréal has brought me from Mumbai to Bangkok, and now to New York City, with countless stops in between. I’m fortunate to have lived all over and with opportunities to immerse myself in new cultures and different ways of life. While there have definitely been some speed bumps along the way, I have grown so much as a person, thanks to the people I’ve met in the many places I have lived and worked.

I believe this passion for learning new things has also made me a stronger leader. I am interested in all aspects of the business at L’Oréal, which helps me remain invested in the success of our Consumer Products Division team for North America.

I’ll never forget the conversation I had with the L’Oréal recruiter when I asked about a specific position as I was coming out of business school. He smiled and said, ‘At L’Oréal, we don’t fill positions, we recruit talents.’ This philosophy holds true to this day, and I’m lucky to work with an incredibly talented team to create beauty that moves the world.” — Nathalie Gerschtein, President, L’Oréal USA Consumer Products Division
