Last week, nearly 700 beauty industry executives gathered at the Fashion Institute of Technology to celebrate the graduating class of its Cosmetics & Fragrance Marketing & Management master’s program, and to attend its annual Capstone research initiative, which this year explored “Beauty & Accessibility.” At CEW, Andrea Nagel reports on the event, which also marked the 25th anniversary of Stephan Kanlian, FIT’s Chairperson/Professor, Master’s Program: CFMM. “His commitment to excellence as well as his passion for innovation will continue to be a driving force shaping the future of the industry,” said Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW, who was in attendance. “His guidance has shaped the careers of many industry leaders.”

Also at CEW, the June 2024 Product Watch has dropped. Reporter Polly Blitzer reveals the month’s most noteworthy launches, across all categories. Among the standouts: nostalgic summer scents, Brooke Shields’ new hair and scalp treatments, D.S. & Durga’s deep-dive into marine sustainability for its latest launch, and two new facial tools: the Facegym x Isamaya Sculpt 01, and compact Solawave 2-in-1 Skincare Mini device. Other highlights include Goop Beauty’s new FeatherLash Lifting Serum Mascara, and Sol de Janeiro’s new, birth-of-the-bikini-inspired Cheirosa 48 Perfume Mist.

In breaking product news, Celine has unveiled Hedi Slimane’s first bath and body care range for the house. “The Celine Bath & Body Collection is extending to liquid soap, body lotion, hand cream and hair mist,” the brand shared on Instagram this morning. “Highly perfumed, each one faithfully recaptures the Celine Haute Perfumerie Collection’s olfactory signature perfumes, Parade, La Pea Nut, Cologne, Céleste, Reptile, Black Tie.”

Looking to the future, L’Oréal has signed an agreement with biotech beauty company Debut to develop over a dozen bio-identical ingredients, designed to replace conventionally sourced ingredients found in L’Oréal’s personal care products, including skin care, hair care, cosmetics and fragrance ranges. L’Oréal also made headlines following a dip in its stock last Friday, following an announcement by CEO Nicolas Hieronimus.

In other market news, Givaudan has announced that it has completed its acquisition of the Italian company b.kolormakeup & skin care (b.kolor), while, in executive updates, Kering Beauté has tapped Stéphane Perrault for the role of Chief Financial Officer.
