In her latest CEW column, The Mother Of Wisdom, Lauren Smith Brody tackles the challenge faced by working mothers when a child unexpectedly needs more of their time. “Often, it’s something urgent, like a kid’s new health need, that forces us to have these “how I get my job done” conversations, but in reality, these are issues – workload, career growth, reporting structure – we should be talking about all the time,” writes Smith Brody, who suggests practical strategies and highlights the legal benefits available. “You’re delivering your deliverables just by mapping out the plan,” she explained. 

Speaking of working motherhood, a new U.K. study by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) reports that working mothers prepare 780 meals every year, reports The Daily Mail. “Working mothers really are doing it all – preparing 780 meals, doing 728 loads of washing and ironing, ferrying kids around 520 times and overseeing 468 lots of homework in an average year,” according to The Daily Mail reporter Marti Stelling. “According to latest ONS figures, as many three in four mothers (75 per cent) are in employment, the highest level in 20 years. Despite this, an overwhelming eight in ten (82 per cent) agreed that they would not swap being a parent for the world.”

Haleon PLC has tapped former L’Oréal Group executive Nathalie Gerschtein as its new President for North America. Gerschtein, who was most recently President of the Consumer Products Division for L’Oréal Group North America, will take over the helm from Lisa Paley, effective May 1. Meanwhile, in market updates, Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand Skims has acquired the SKNN by Kim beauty label from Coty. 

Estée Lauder has unveiled its new Beauty Sleep Dupe ad campaign, featuring Kristen Bell, for the Advanced Night Repair range. The campaign offers a humorous take on “dupe culture” with the messaging that “Estée Lauder “dupes” the undupable and the ultimate luxury – sleep itself,” stated the company in a press release.

In brick-and-mortar news, Hourglass is opening a global flagship in SoHo, New York. “We wanted this retail experience to feel very engaging, very intimate, and very warm,” Carisa Janes, founder and President of Hourglass, told WWD. “It’s not a traditional beauty destination.” Meanwhile, the luxury French department store Printemps has opened the doors to its first US store at One Wall Street in Manhattan. 

According to a report in Global Cosmetics News, L’Oréal and other major European cosmetics companies are lobbying the EU to remove American beauty products from its proposed trade retaliation list. “They argue this measure could trigger damaging countermeasures from the U.S. against one of Europe’s key export sectors,” reported Global Cosmetics News.
