“One of the most pivotal moments in my career wasn’t about taking a leap. It was about choosing to stay,” Catherine Bomboy Dougherty, Senior Vice President, Global Brand, Integrated Communications at The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC), told CEW in an exclusive interview today. “I’ve been with The Estée Lauder Companies, or ELC, for 20 years. Nowadays, people feel they have to jump companies every few years to move up in their job. But I believe that a fulfilling, successful career is as much about depth as it is about breadth.” A 2025 CEW Achiever Award Honoree, Bomboy Dougherty will be one of those honored at our upcoming 50th anniversary luncheon.
Speaking of female leadership, L’Oréal Canada has created a new C-suite role, appointing Nadia Collette as its first Chief Commercial Acceleration and Transformation Officer. Collette has worked her way up within the company, starting as a Key Account Manager, over 20 years. “I am extremely grateful to have spent the last 22 years working for a division that has taught me to listen, to put people first and develop me into the Leader, Woman and Mother I always wanted to be,” she shared on LinkedIn.
In other executive news, Ron Gee has stepped down as the CEO of Shiseido’s Americas division. Alberto Noé, Shiseido’s EMEA region CEO, will serve as interim CEO for the division.
In media news, celebrity Makeup Artist Vincent Oquendo has launched “Backseat Beauties,” a beauty talk show, on YouTube. “’Backseat Beauties’ looks to combine the informative appeal of beauty podcasts — which have soared in popularity in recent years, with “Gloss Angeles” and “Fat Mascara” being among the most prominent examples — with a more pared-back take on a makeup tutorial,” writes WWD reporter, Noor Lobad.
On the fragrance front, Sol de Janeiro, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has announced it will be Coachella’s first ever Fragrance Partner and Exclusive Body Care Sponsor. “Coachella gives us a unique opportunity to bring our scent experience to a cultural stage unlike any other,” commented Anne Talley, regional president, Americas, Sol de Janeiro. In other beauty news, Elizabeth Arden has unveiled a multi-channel “SmarterRetinol” ad campaign, to launch its new Retinol + HPR Ceramide Capsules Serum.
In markets news, Beiersdorf has announced that its organic sales rose 3.6% in the first quarter of 2025, hitting €2.7bn, which is ahead of market forecasts.
