Spate has released its annual Year in Review report. Providing a detailed, retrospective evaluation of its January 2023 predictions for the beauty trends and brands to watch, the report highlights the key, emerging themes of the year. Holistic health and self-care routines reigned supreme, as did product portability, while consumer demand for certain at-home beauty devices increased. “Nearly a year later, a review of our 2023 predictions shows our commitment to the foresight we offer to brands,” says Olivier Zimmer, Spate’s CEO and Co-Founder. “Our effective methodology equips brands with essential insights to refine their strategies.”

Seeking to harness the power of TikTok Shop from two, notably different market positions, the Estée Lauder Companies is focusing its attention on Estée Lauder, its prestige brand, and The Ordinary, a science-backed, budget-friendly range with a 1.3 m following on TikTok and a strong creator network.

Meanwhile, self-funded indie body care brand Karité expects to double its revenues in 2024. Founded by Akua Okunseinde, Abena Slowe and Naana Boakye, three sisters from Ghana, the formulas are based on the raw, unrefined shea butter they grew up using. Increased brand awareness and retail distribution have played major roles in Karité’s success (WWD named its Crème Corps one of the most iconic body care products this year, and sales tripled after a Today show spot on International Women’s Day).

In CEW news across the pond, the 2023 CEW UK Achiever Awards recipients collected their awards at a celebration in London on Tuesday night. Among the winners, Carisa Janes, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hourglass Cosmetics, received the Icon Award.
