Staying on top of  TikTok trends can seem an impossible task for beauty brands and marketers. But a new, groundbreaking report by Spate offers clarity and first-of-its-kind insights through the pooling and comparison of data from both the platform itself and Google Search. “Discovering the remarkable similarities in data trends between TikTok and Google over three years is a game-changer for beauty brands,” says Olivier Zimmer, Spate’s CEO, of its The Life Cycle of a Trend: Comparing Google Search & TikTok analysis. At CEW, Andrea Nagel shares four key insights, gleaned by Spate’s review of two million Google keywords and 60 million TikTok videos.

In breaking acquisitions news, Puig has purchased a majority stake in Dr. Barbara Sturm, the German skin care brand founded by Dr. Barbara Sturm in 2014. “We are taking another important step in expanding our position in the premium skin care segment,” commented Marc Puig, Chairman and CEO of the Spanish company which also owns brands including Charlotte Tilbury and Carolina Herrera. “The new partnership reinforces Puig’s skin care segment and our presence in the U.S.”

Also in skin care, Shaun O’Hollaren and Riley Egan, co-founders of Strip Makeup, share the origin story of their innovative brand with Didi Gluck at CEW today. “The pair share the belief that the products consumers are using to remove makeup and wash skin are dehydrating, disruptive to pH levels, and strip it of essential nutrients,” reports Gluck. Three years in development, the nutrient-infused cleansing strips — think antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, retinoic acid, vitamins, micronutrients, and fatty acids — have proved a hit, with an in-shower and on-the-go products due to launch this year.

The Sephora/Westman Atelier partnership is thriving, with the expansion of the brand to 252 stores in February. This follows the recent launch of its mini Face Trace contour sticks, which give consumers the opportunity to discover the range at a lower price point. “We’re thrilled to witness the growth of Westman Atelier at Sephora, and the expansion of their petites lineup is yet another exciting milestone,” said Alison Hahn, Sephora’s Senior Vice President of Makeup and Fragrance merchandising.

French spa and skin care company Biologique Recherche has named Jean-Guillaume Trottier, former Global Brand President for Estée Lauder Companies brands including Jo Malone London, as its new CEO.
