To celebrate Black History Month, Yelp released a Black-Owned Businesses to Watch list highlighting the most highly-rated and popular Black-owned businesses across several categories, including beauty. Over the last year, the company said that people have be flocking to the platform in unprecedented numbers to find and support Black-owned businesses. Notably, searches for Black-owned businesses increased a whopping 2,400 percent in 2020, compared to 2019, and review mentions were up 232 percent. These businesses have also shown increases in average ratings and review counts in 2020 compared to 2019, including those that opened in January 2019 or later. Below, is Yelp’s roundup of the top ranked Black-owned beauty businesses, with offerings for both men and women. For geographic diversity, the company limited the list to two businesses per metro area per category.
